Almost "growing" from the rock is a hermitage chapel which was dedicaated to St Michael in 1409. It is said that when the chapel fell into disrepair it was occuried by a leper hermit who was tended by his daughter Gunnett. It also features in legends about the star crossed lover Tristan and Isolde.
